Successfully Record Completion of Ontario’s Mandatory Health and Safety Awareness Training with New E-course

HAMILTON, ON (January 14, 2014) – The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has developed an e-course to help Ontario workers understand their rights and responsibilities under the province’s new health and safety training regulation.

Under the new Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training regulation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which comes into force on July 1, 2014, all employers in Ontario must ensure that their workers complete a basic health and safety awareness training program. CCOHS’ newest e-course, Health and Safety Awareness for Ontario Workers, helps employers meet this requirement.

This one hour course will provide participants with an understanding of their health and safety rights and responsibilities in Ontario as well as the internal responsibility system (IRS), and the duties of the employer, supervisor and worker. Workers will also gain awareness training in identifying common workplace hazards such as repetitive movements; slips, trips and falls; working near vehicles; using or working near machinery; and workplace violence.

Upon completing the e-course, participants will be able to print a Certificate of Completion, and, with the purchase of a multi-seat account, employers can track and prove their workers successfully completed the training. Information about pricing for this e-course can be found on the CCOHS website.

CCOHS’ e-courses are unique in that they are developed by subject specialists in the field, and reviewed by representatives from labour, employers and government to ensure the content and approach are unbiased, credible and technically accurate. There are quizzes throughout and a certificate of completion is issued upon passing the exam.
